FORMULE LIBRE (Europe) 1929 – 1961

£80.00
Second edition – now available

This book is an essential supplement to the “Black Books” for a full understanding of single-seater racing. Formule Libre (“Free Formula”) races have generally been neglected by historians, probably because they do not conveniently fit in to modern formula “boxes”. This is despite some having entries worthy of a Formula 1 race. Many interesting cars took part in them. No history of makes like Connaught, Cooper, Maserati and ERA would be complete without including these races. This edition aims to rectify that situation. Most of these races have never previously been fully documented.

The book is 450 pages hard-bound in the usual Formula One Register style, giving entry lists with chassis numbers where know, grids and full results to the extent that our researches have uncovered these. There are no illustrations.

GRAND PRIX Volume 16 & Junior Formulae 2009 – 2011

£120.00

The Formula One Register has produced a new volume in its well-respected history of major single-seater racing, extending the period covered to 2009-2011.

Having decided to suspend the production of Yearbooks, we have looked afresh at the categories included in this volume of “A Record of Grand Prix and Voiturette Racing”. As we have previously observed, the old F1 – F2 – F3 structure of motor racing was eroded during the 21st century by the introduction of several competing classes, such as the Renault backed Formula Renault 3.5 which was a direct competitor to GP2, along with various series using old F3000 cars.

With motor racing more global than ever, it seems wrong to exclude a category simply because it did not run in Europe. Nor is it possible to distinguish what to include on the basis of a formula being the step below Formula 1 when drivers like Räikkönen were plucked straight from Formula Renault.

This volume (360 pages) therefore covers what we might for convenience call “big-engine” formulae (taking into account turbo charging) that are broadly equivalent to being the tier below Formula 1.

  • F1, Indycar, GP2, F3000, Formula Nippon, Formula Renault 3.5, Superleague, A1GP, F2, Auto GP

The next tier, principally Formula 3, is available separately as a “small-engine” companion to the above book, this covers F3, GP3, Indy Lights, Formula Master and Toyota Racing Series. The format is the usual entry list, grid and results, amounting to over 400 pages. The book is printed to order and supplied hard-bound in black covers in the general style of our other publications, but customers should be aware that the standard of production may be a little below professionally printed standards.

This book costs £60 plus postage if ordered alone – but save £20 when ordering with Volume 16 using this page.

HISTORIC 500cc RACING 1970 – 2011

£60.00
The Formula One Register has published a Record Book on Historic 500cc racing in Europe, from the first Thruxton demonstration event in 1970 to the end of the 2011 season.
The book records for the first time ever in detail the growth of 500cc racing from a handful of races in the 70s, through its inclusion with Formula Junior in the 90s to today where the UK has a fully fledged stand-alone series. The numerous races in Sweden are included, as is 500 participation in Continental events like the F.I.S.A Trophy.
A total of some 800 events are documented! For the vast majority the information provided comprises the entry list, chassis numbers, grid positions, full results with race times and competitors’ fastest laps. In addition, all the 500 OA Wiscombe hill climbs are included.
Also given is the car’s chassis or Register number – approaching 300 identities from AGS to Zig. Please note that as with other Record books, there are no pictures and text is limited to a general overview of the evolution of 500 racing. Published as a Limited Edition, the book runs to almost 380 pages, hard bound and numbered and signed.

Covering European Historic Formula Junior 1975 – 89, this book documents the period when Formula Junior emerged as a historic racing category with the FISA Trophy, a UK championship and races in Italy and Germany.

Historic Formula Junior Volume 1 is in the usual format of entry list, grid and results. In the majority of cases we have also been able to identify the chassis numbers. The books cover UK and Continental events, both FISA Trophy and national Formula Junior races, plus 1000cc Formula 3, Formule France, DB and MEP races.  There are no race reports. As can be imagined, this has been a monumental piece of research, assisted by many of the competitors of the time, although inevitably a few events have proved illusive.

Volume 2 of our European Historic Formula Junior record book series documents the period when support for Formula Junior decreased somewhat, particularly in the UK, leading to the founding of the Formula Junior Historic Racing Association.
